In the Kitchen: Heart Sugar Cookies

Ever since I can remember, it has been a tradition to make my mom's sugar cookies for Valentine's Day. Growing up, my sisters and I would always request to make dozens of sugar cookies and then take them to school to hand out to classmates, friends and teachers on Valentine's Day. They are the best tasting sugar cookies and they make the cutest Valentine's Day treat. Enjoy!

Heart Sugar Cookies

Dough:
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

Frosting:
1 box powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
1-8 oz. package of cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine butter, egg, sour cream, sugar and vanilla extract. Add flour, baking soda and salt. Chill dough for about 2 hours in refrigerator (or if you are in a rush, throw in the freezer for 30 minutes). Roll out evenly and cut into desired shapes. Bake for 8-10 minutes. For the frosting, cream powdered sugar, cream cheese, butter and vanilla extract until smooth. Add food coloring if desired. Wait until cookies are completely cool to frost.
